Shopify Black Friday 2026: The 7-Week Ad Creative Checklist
A week-by-week Black Friday Cyber Monday 2026 creative plan for Shopify stores, covering how many ads to make, which angles to run when, what not to put on product images, and the post-BFCM plan most stores skip.
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30. To be ready, Shopify stores should finish their BFCM ad creatives by mid-November: roughly 10 to 20 new creatives for each hero product, covering teaser, early-access, main-sale, last-chance and post-sale angles, in both feed (4:5) and story (9:16) sizes. Start now, because ad review and learning take longer in late November.
The stakes are real. Shopify merchants sold a record $14.6 billion over BFCM 2025, up 27 percent on the year before, to more than 81 million shoppers. Sales peaked at $5.1 million per minute at 12:01 p.m. Eastern on Black Friday. Your ads are competing for attention with all of it.
Why creative is the bottleneck in November
In BFCM week, ad costs rise because every brand bids for the same people. You cannot outbid the big brands. You can out-create them:
- Fatigue comes faster. People see more ads per day, so a creative wears out in days rather than weeks.
- Offers change daily. Teaser, early access, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and last chance each need their own message.
- Review queues get longer. Meta's ad review can be slower in late November, so last-minute ads may not go live in time.
The stores that win BFCM usually have more fresh, specific creative ready before the rush, not bigger budgets.
The 7-week plan
Week 1 (October 9 to 15): Pick products and offers
- Choose three to five hero products. Use last year's BFCM sellers, your current bestsellers and anything with healthy stock and margin.
- Decide the offer for each: percentage off, a bundle, a gift with purchase or free shipping. Bundles protect margin better than deep discounts. See how to increase AOV with bundles.
- Check stock levels. Promoting something that sells out on Friday morning wastes the weekend's budget.
Week 2 (October 16 to 22): Fix product images
- Make sure each hero product has a full gallery: clean main image, angles, detail, scale and a lifestyle scene. The Shopify AI product photography guide covers fast ways to fill gaps.
- Add gift-context lifestyle images: wrapped boxes, holiday tables, someone opening a present. Push these to the product as additional images.
- Do not put "SALE" text on the main product image. Google Shopping disapproves main images with promotional overlays, and a disapproved product drops out of Shopping ads at the worst possible time. Use your theme's sale badge instead. Details in our Google Shopping image rules guide.
Week 3 (October 23 to 29): Build the creative bank
For each hero product, make creatives for every phase:
| Phase | Dates (2026) | Angle | Example hook |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teaser | Nov 9 to 19 | Something is coming, join the list | "Our biggest sale of the year starts in 10 days" |
| Early access | Nov 20 to 26 | Subscribers and past buyers first | "You're on the list. Early access is open" |
| Black Friday | Nov 27 to 29 | The offer, clearly | "40% off the Linen Set, this weekend only" |
| Cyber Monday | Nov 30 | Final big day, new urgency | "Cyber Monday: last day for 40% off" |
| Last chance | Dec 1 to 2 | Extension or final hours | "Extended 24 hours. Then it's gone" |
| Gifting | Dec 3 to 15 | Shipping deadlines, gift guides | "Order by Dec 15 for delivery before the holidays" |
That is six phases. Two to three creatives per phase, in two sizes, gives about 12 to 18 creatives per hero product. With five hero products, that is 60 to 90 creatives. This is where AI production earns its keep: Brands OnPromptAds generates them from your synced Shopify products, so changing "this weekend only" to "last day" is a regeneration, not a redesign.
Turn your Shopify product photos into ads
Brands OnPromptAds syncs your Shopify catalog, generates ad creatives from the product photos you already have, and pushes the finished images back to your product listings. Plans from $29 a month, billed through Shopify, with a 14-day free trial.
Week 4 (October 30 to November 5): Warm up audiences
- Run engagement and traffic ads with your best evergreen creative to build retargeting pools: video viewers, Instagram engagers and site visitors.
- Grow your email and SMS list with a "get early access" signup. Those subscribers are your cheapest BFCM buyers.
- Test which creative directions get the best click-through rate now, while costs are lower. Use the winners as the base for BFCM versions.
Week 5 (November 6 to 12): Load and review ads
- Upload BFCM ads as paused campaigns so Meta reviews them before the rush. Fix any rejections now. See why Facebook ads get rejected.
- Duplicate winning ad sets rather than editing live ones. Big edits can restart the learning phase.
- Check your Meta catalog ads are syncing correctly from Shopify, with prices and stock up to date.
Week 6 (November 13 to 19): Launch the teaser
- Start teaser and list-building ads.
- Email your list with the date and the early-access promise.
- Raise budgets gradually, by about 20 percent every few days, rather than doubling overnight.
Week 7 (November 20 to 30): Execute
- Switch creatives on schedule: early access, then Black Friday, then Cyber Monday.
- Check frequency daily. When frequency climbs and click-through rate drops, rotate in fresh creatives. See ad frequency: what's too high.
- Keep an eye on stock, and pause ads for products that sell out.
What to put in a BFCM creative
Strong BFCM creatives share the same parts:
- The product, large and clear. It is still a product ad, not a sale poster.
- The offer in a few words. "40% off", "Buy 2 get 1" or "Free gift over $75".
- A time limit, when it is true. "This weekend only", "Ends tonight".
- One visual cue for the season, such as a gift box, warm lights or a dark Black Friday palette, without clutter.
- Brand consistency. Same fonts and colors across every phase, so people who saw the teaser recognize the main sale ad. See brand consistency with AI creatives.
Avoid fake urgency. Countdown claims that reset or "only 2 left" when there are 200 break trust and can break consumer protection rules.
The post-BFCM plan most stores skip
BFCM brings in thousands of new customers. Most stores then go quiet until January. Instead:
- Thank-you and review requests to every BFCM buyer once orders arrive.
- Gift-shipping deadline ads through mid-December.
- Retarget BFCM visitors who did not buy with a "missed it?" message or a smaller offer.
- Bundle and accessory ads to people who bought a hero product.
Our Q4 holiday ads calendar covers the wider season around BFCM.

Frequently asked questions
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, 2026. Thanksgiving in the United States is Thursday, November 26, and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30.
When should Shopify stores start Black Friday ads?
Start preparing creatives in October and launch teaser and list-building ads in mid-November. Upload sale ads as paused campaigns by about November 12 so they clear review before the rush, then switch them on for early access and Black Friday.
How many ad creatives do I need for BFCM?
Plan on 10 to 20 creatives per hero product, covering teaser, early access, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, last chance and gifting phases in feed and story sizes. Fatigue sets in quickly during BFCM, so having spares ready matters.
Should I put sale banners on my Shopify product images?
Not on the main product image. Google Shopping disapproves main images with promotional text, which can remove products from Shopping ads during BFCM. Use your theme's sale badge on the storefront and put sale text in your ads instead.
Do Facebook ads cost more during Black Friday?
Yes, ad costs usually rise during BFCM week because many advertisers compete for the same audiences. Building retargeting audiences and email lists earlier, and having strong creative ready, helps keep acquisition costs under control.
How can a small Shopify store compete on Black Friday?
Focus on a few hero products, offer a clear and honest deal, prepare plenty of fresh creative ahead of time and lean on warm audiences: email subscribers, past buyers and site visitors. Small stores rarely win on budget, but they can win on specific, well-timed creative.
