AI Apparel Product Photography: Six Catalog Shots from One Garment

Apparel product photography for Shopify brands. See a live Product studio demo that builds front, back, mid, close-up, packshot, and detail frames from photos you already have.

October 7, 2026·4 min read

Apparel product photography is the set of images a clothing page needs before a shopper will buy: front, back, a mid crop, a close-up, a packshot with no person, and a fabric detail. Most brands either book a studio day for every SKU or publish one flat photo and hope. Product studio on OnPromptAds builds that six-frame pack from the photos already on the garment.

The demo below is the real studio flow. It picks the product, assigns photos, turns on the shots, generates the pack, then pushes the frames to Shopify. Watch it run, or read the steps under it.

How apparel product photography works in Product studio

  1. Pick the product. The card shows the catalog photo, not a text list. Change opens the full brand catalog.
  2. Assign the photos you already have. Front, back, and close-up are separate slots. Tap the product image that belongs in each one.
  3. Keep the shots you need. Front, back, product, close-up, mid, and detail start on. Turn one off if that frame does not fit the garment.
  4. Generate the pack. On-model frames and packshots render together. Review them on the page.
  5. Push to Shopify. Order the images, set alt text, and append or replace the product media.

A front photo is enough to start the packshot. A back photo unlocks the back shot. A close-up of knit, zipper, or label unlocks the detail frame.

What each apparel frame is for

  • Front is the collection image and the first photo on the product page. Shoppers judge silhouette here.
  • Back shows prints, seams, and how the garment hangs. A size chart does not answer that.
  • Mid is the head-to-thigh crop lookbooks use between a full body and a portrait.
  • Close-up puts collar, placket, and face in one frame for ads and the image beside the title.
  • Product is the no-person frame Google Shopping and many marketplaces expect.
  • Detail is the zoom image: fabric, stitch, or hardware, with no face.

Set the model, the look, and the background once. Those choices stay on every on-model frame so the person does not change between front and back. Plus and above can save a brand model and reuse that person on the next SKU.

Apparel photos without a full studio day

A traditional apparel shoot prices the photographer, the model, the studio, and the retoucher, then multiplies that by colorways. AI apparel product photography does not replace a campaign hero you art-direct in person. It covers the catalog set: the six frames every PDP (product detail page) should have, produced from photos you shot on a rack or already synced from Shopify.

Review color, print, and logos before you publish. If one frame drifts, regenerate that shot. The rest of the pack stays.

Frequently asked questions

What is apparel product photography?

It is the set of still images that show a garment clearly enough to buy online: front, back, length, construction, fabric, and a clean packshot. Ads can come later. The listing comes first.

Can AI replace a clothing photoshoot?

For catalog frames, yes. For a directed campaign with a stylist on set, no. Product studio is built for the repeatable pack every SKU needs.

What photos do I need to start?

One front photo. Add a back photo and a close-up when you have them. Shopify products can supply those images directly.

Will the print and color stay the same?

The pack is generated from your source photos. Check each frame before it replaces live media. Regenerate a single shot if the print drifts.

Do I need a model on set?

No. On-model frames are generated from the garment. A saved brand model keeps the same person across the pack.

What is a ghost mannequin shot?

It is a packshot of the garment with shape and no visible person. The Product frame in this pack is that job.

Can I skip a frame?

Yes. Turn off any shot you do not need before you generate.

How do the images get onto Shopify?

Push the approved pack in order, with alt text. Append adds media. Replace swaps stills and keeps video.

Does this work for dresses, knitwear, and outerwear?

Yes. The same six jobs apply. Turn off a frame that does not match the construction, such as a back shot on a garment you only sell from the front.

How is this different from generating an ad?

An ad sells. A shot pack documents the product. Use the pack on the product page, then make ads from the frames that won. See AI product photography vs AI ads.

Can I run a whole collection?

Paid plans can queue the same preset across many products. Each product uses its own photos.

Where do I open this in Brands?

Content, then Product studio, then Apparel. Or start from AI product photography.
